MEET THE CMCT COACHES

Tim Trunnell

Sander Rigney

Sander Rigney

This will be my 9th year coaching for CMCT. I specialize in coaching our top level development group, which consists of riders of all ages who are preparing to join our race team soon. I focus primarily on skills development and building a solid technical base (and I sneak in some fitness & speed work when no one is looking!)

I fell in love with bikes even before the training wheels came off. Racing and working in cycling have introduced me to incredible people and adventures around the world. My goal is to help CMCT student-athletes discover what inspires them, build confidence, and create lasting memories—on and off the bike.

David Drury is a passionate mountain bike coach who has been helping riders build confidence and improve their skills since 2020—and he sees no reason to stop anytime soon. David stays on two wheels by riding gravel and fat bikes whenever conditions allow. His coaching emphasizes balance, body positioning, cornering, climbing, descending, and trail awareness.

I started riding across the mountains and beaches of Wales, where I grew up. I have been coaching since 2016 when my son joined the team, with stints as team director and head coach. I’ve also been on the league race crew doing course layout and start line announcements.

Dean Kennedy

Dean has been riding and racing bikes since college, when he found out what a mountain bike was. Since moving to the springs, he's found a way to instill the love of mountain biking in the next generation. His favorite thing is coaching students on tricky, slow-speed tech!

My love of bikes started in western Maryland when I would build trails in the woods all day only to be sent home by the setting of the sun.  In college, I spent my winters working at the local ski resort as a coach; when one summer they offered me a bike from the shop, and a job building trails.  Now I ride 4-5 days per week the other d

My love of bikes started in western Maryland when I would build trails in the woods all day only to be sent home by the setting of the sun.  In college, I spent my winters working at the local ski resort as a coach; when one summer they offered me a bike from the shop, and a job building trails.  Now I ride 4-5 days per week the other days wishing I was riding.

Bike of choice: Guerrilla  Gravity, named "Smash Brother".

Post ride snack: Italian water rice.

Favorite trail: unchained, BV

I used to watch Eddy Merckx, as a child, win everything. My parents got me a Peugeot road bike that also worked as a mountain bike until it didn’t.
Started MTB when I turned 50. I wish I had learned that earlier. Favorite trails: Columbine, Sweetwater, Jacks, Chutes, Monarch Crest.
Love to ride and work on bikes. Getting a little old to coach but enjoy doing it. See you out there.

As a high-energy MTB coach, I help our riders become confident racers while keeping the emphasis on fun and enjoyment. I help combine technical skills and fitness with race strategy to unlock serious speed and bike control. I enjoy cultivating a supportive squad where both our riders and coaches build lifelong friendships and a love of cycling.
